The program for Health and Environmental Protection

IMPA has been part of the "Responsible Care" program since its introduction in Italy in 1992 by Federchimica. Companies involved in the voluntary program set up by the global chemical industry are committed to continually improve their products, processes and behaviour in the areas of Safety, Health and Environment, in order to significantly contribute to the sustainable development of the industry, local communities and society.

IMPA's commitment

In conformity with the guidelines of Responsible Care, IMPA has adopted an industrial policy that over the years has obtained important results in reducing the environmental impact of its chemical production processes and continually improving its products.

In 2000, the 6th Responsible Care Report named IMPA as an excellent Italian example of industrial chemical processes with low environmental impact, recognising the continual improvement of the technological plants used.

The concentration of dust particles in the air was halved thanks to the computerised management of the doses by means of silos, while the research focused on products and solutions capable of guaranteeing better eco-compatibility and greater safety for users or final consumers.

The Product Stewardship Award

The Product Stewardship, the improvement of the product and its life cycle, is one of the most important areas of the Responsible Care program: it involves the responsible management of the substances, preparations, products, and services along the entire chemical added-value chain, aimed at improving the performances, safety and environmental impact.

As a result of its policy to develop water-based paints and varnishes, particularly relating to the HT Innovation line, IMPA was awarded the 2007 Product Stewardship Award.

Through the products of the HT Innovation line, IMPA has developed a range of alternative water-based products that are more environmentally friendly and healthier and safer to use than solvent-based products. Furthermore, in terms of production, this approach has allowed IMPA to reduce the amount of waste produced, VOC discharged and energy used.

IMPA's objective for the near future is to continue this line of research and gradually replace solvent-based paint products with their water-based alternatives, promoting the use of futuristic and sustainable products at the customers with training and information activities.
